Selkirk Baptist Church was established in 1880. Its original 19 members included James Brown, a local blacksmith. He served as the church's pastor until his death in 1912.
A church was built near the centre of town at the top of The Valley Road. Sadly, all that remains today is rubble and a vacant plot as the old building fell into disrepair and had to be knocked down. May Telfer, our longest surviving member remembers it well and she is holding the church bell for a future build!
1986 proved a landmark in the church's history. We began to meet in Philiphaugh Community School and God has so blessed the fellowship since. We have been made rich by the fellowship of Christians from far and wide and from various Christian traditions.
Our present ministry spans all ages but what is truly exciting is the wonderful contact the Lord has given us with children and youth in the community and local schools. What an exciting time it is in the church's history!
