Looking for God?

Do you ever feel that there must be something more to life than what you have? Do you feel empty sometimes, but can’t quite identify the reason why?

God created each of us to have relationship with Him, so there is that God-shaped hole in our soul which, if we do not know God, we tend to try and fill with other things. We seek our fulfilment through work, money, alcohol or drugs.

Are you just seeking that ‘satisfied life’ which always seems to be round the next corner?

The good news is that life does not have to be like that. God loves you and wants you to know Him personally and have a life-changing relationship with Him through His son, Jesus, who said “I have come to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

God’s book, the Bible, shows us what God is like in the person of Jesus. The Bible tells us we have all sinned and have fallen short of God’s standards, i.e. none of us is perfect !!

Read about Jesus in the four books of the Bible called The Gospels, which are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  Read about what He did and what He said.  In reading, ask God to reveal Jesus to you.

In the first book of the Bible, Genesis, you can read about the first man, Adam, whom God created to have fellowship with Him, in the Garden of Eden.  Adam, with his wife Eve, had the run of the garden but were told not to eat the fruit of one particular tree.  Adam and Eve disobeyed and sin entered into their life and that of mankind. People were thus cut off from God .

This was not what God wanted,  He gave mankind free will, to choose Him or not. God’s love for us was such, however, that He made a way back to Him which is open to all.  He sent his son, Jesus, who was both God and man, to live a sinless life on this earth. He chose to die on the cross, taking on Himself all our sins. He bore our punishment in order that the price was paid and we could live. Jesus overcame death by rising from the dead. He appeared to many before leaving earth and going to heaven. He said “I am the resurrection and the Life, he who believes in me will not die but have everlasting life.”

Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except by me” God the Father longs for you to have a relationship with Him and live a life fulfilled and worth living, following His ways. When reading the book of Luke, you will find a great story that Jesus told called “The prodigal son” in chapter 15.  It illustrates how we have strayed away from God and done our own thing, but when we repent of the wrong we have done, and return to Him, He is there looking for us, ready to run and embrace us with such joy.

How can you know God in your life, then?

You need to admit to Him that you have wrong in your life, and say sorry for all the wrong things in life you have done.  You need to ask God’s forgiveness and thank Jesus that He died and took the punishment for your sin on that cross, and then ask Him to come into your heart as your Lord and Saviour.  The Bible says “If you confess with your mouth “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead then you will be saved.”

When you do this, it is the start of a new life in relationship with God through faith in Jesus.  You are no longer alone, He will be walking the road of life with you. The Lord will comfort and empower by His grace, you will be given peace and joy in your life.
