To know Jesus is to know life
I recently found out that I had cancer of the bowel. Fortunately, it has been caught relatively early and I am not in the position of those who are in pain and facing terminal cancer. However, I had to get some radiotherapy, an operation and it is now being recommended that I get chemotherapy. Life has its ups and downs and is certainly not always easy, but what a difference when you know that Jesus is in control and is with you in it.
What is Jesus doing during all this? Well my week in hospital was one of the best weeks of my life. Why? Because Jesus was so present with me in hospital (and of course I have to say that the hospital staff were also excellent). Despite having had discomfort and inconvenience at times, God can use all these things. I have not, either in hospital or since returning home, had one second’s worry or lack of peace. God is in control; my life is in His hands (and what a blessing it is to know that). If I must be off work, and that brings financial implications, God knows it all and He certainly doesn’t need me to worry about it. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. He gives a reason for living. He gives a reason to get up each day. He gives joy and laughter. He is with us in the hard times. To know Him is to know life and not just ordinary life, but eternal life, life to the full, abundant and overflowing life. He gives the promise and the assurance to all who come to Him that He will give them this. He gives forgiveness from all the wrongs we have done. He gives rest to weary and discouraged. Jesus is certainly doing lots of wonderful things in many people’s lives today.
